Cape Cadogan
The land at Upper Union Street was first granted in 1822. The building that became Cape Cadogan was declared a National Monument in 1984 — a Georgian-Victorian double-storey that sits on the lower slopes of Table Mountain on what is now Kloof Street, Cape Town's most densely independent stretch of restaurants, galleries, and cafés. A full renovation in 2022 brought emerald greens, black-and-white detailing, and gold accents into rooms that still follow the constraints of the original floorplan, meaning no two are the same. The art rotates through a partnership with Everard Read — Africa's oldest commercial gallery — refreshed several times a year. The restaurant next door, Upper Union, opened in 2022 under chef Amori Burger: 2025 Eat Out One Star, globally inspired, built around sharing. The hotel is the most inland of the three in the Cape Town guide, the one most embedded in the city.
