Casa Loma Beach Hotel
The Inn at Laguna Beach sat on a cliff above the ocean on South Coast Highway for forty years before the current owners decided it deserved something better. They engaged Electric Bowery — the New York firm responsible for some of the most considered hotel redesigns in the US — and gave them a brief drawn from the Mallorcan seaside hotels that the original building had always gestured toward. The result, relaunched as Casa Loma Beach Hotel, is earthy hues, hand-crafted furnishings, and a rooftop terrace and pool with a view that makes the previous four decades seem like a long wait. Each room faces the Pacific. Victoria Beach is below the cliff. The design makes the most of a location that was always there and just needed the right building around it.

The design
Electric Bowery took a forty-year-old cliff hotel and gave it what it had always been waiting for.
Mallorcan coastal references — terracotta, warm stone, woven textures — applied to a Southern California cliff property. Hand-crafted furnishings, a rooftop pool above the Pacific, rooms oriented to the view. The renovation stripped the building to what it was and rebuilt from there.
