Hotel El Ganzo
El Ganzo opened in 2012 on the old fisherman's wharf at the mouth of Puerto Los Cabos marina, built around a recording studio before it was built around rooms. In 2022 it became the first hotel in Mexico to earn B Corp certification, and the community centre across the street had already been running for years by then. Most hotels hang art. El Ganzo is where the art gets made.

Sustainability

The sustainability
A B Corp score of 92.4, against a median of 50.9. The laundry soap is made from nopal.
El Ganzo's B Corp score of 92.4 sits well above the median of 50.9 for ordinary businesses. Across the street, La Playa Centro Comunitario serves over 1,500 residents from five communities with a learning garden, art classes, and a monthly recycling station the hotel runs jointly with it. Even the laundry soap — made from nopal — cuts water use by 80%.

The design
A 1,700-square-foot studio under a trapdoor. One of the venues is built from junked cranes.
The Underground sits beneath the lobby — a 1,700-square-foot recording studio where Khruangbin, Natalia Lafourcade, Damien Rice, and Kings of Convenience have all recorded. Music director Mark Rudin was hired to build it before the hotel opened in 2013, and never left; he still hand-picks every artist for El Ganzo Sessions. Over 90% of the guest rooms double as art installations, repainted as new residents arrive.
