The best surf & yoga hotels · Biarritz & the French Basque Coast
Indarra
The 1870 farmhouse in Arbonne sits in the hills above Saint-Jean-de-Luz with the entire Basque surf coast within reach — the Côte des Basques fifteen minutes by car, Guéthary and Parlementia the same, Hossegor thirty. Architect Delphine Carrère's renovation kept the original stone structure and added a twenty-metre heated pool, a fireplace lounge, and a spa designed for the kind of evening the cliff-road hotels in Biarritz can't offer. The name means strength in Basque. INDARRA is where you stay when you want the coast as your front yard and the Basque hills as your back.

The hotel

The Design
An 1870 Basque farmhouse. Original stone. Twenty-metre pool. The hills in every direction.
Carrère's approach was addition rather than replacement — the farmhouse bones, the exposed stone, the original volumes all preserved, with contemporary interventions that serve the place rather than announce themselves. The fireplace lounge and pool terrace face the hills. The coast is close enough to drive to and far enough away to make the return feel earned.
