Sublime Comporta
Gonçalo Pessoa was a pilot and his wife Patricia a flight attendant when they bought 17 hectares of umbrella pines and cork oaks in Muda, between Comporta village and the Atlantic coast, and started building a hotel. That was 2014. Sublime Comporta was the first luxury property in the region — the hotel that introduced Comporta to an international audience before the international audience arrived. Portuguese architect José Alberto Charrua designed the buildings to disappear into the forest: rooms and villas scattered through the estate, floor-to-ceiling glass opening onto private terraces, materials running to raw cement, cotton, linen, and local timber. The Bio-Pool Suites are built on stilts over one of the largest biological pools in Europe, their structure a deliberate nod to the Palafítico da Carrasqueira — the artisanal fishing wharf built by local fishermen in the 1950s on the Sado estuary, twelve kilometres away. An organic garden, orchard, and agroforestry all cultivated on permaculture principles supply the restaurants. The Terracotta wing is the original Sublime: the one built on conviction before Comporta needed any.

The hotel

The Design
Built on 17 hectares of pine and cork forest. The rooms are scattered through it. The forest is the hotel.
Charrua's brief was integration, not imposition — rooms and villas placed between the trees so the estate reads as forest first, hotel second. Raw cement floors, pure cotton bedding, petrified wood, Balinese doors — warm materials that weather rather than date. The Bio-Pool Suites are the exception: built on stilts above the water, they make the reference to Carrasqueira's fishing wharf explicit and earn it.

The Sustainability
Organic garden, orchard, and agroforestry. Permaculture principles. Biological pool. The Michelin Key confirms what was already true.
The organic garden was expanded over the years into an orchard and a full agroforestry system, all cultivated on permaculture principles and all supplying the on-site restaurants. The biological pool — no chemicals, natural filtration — is one of the largest in Europe.
