Immerso Hotel
Gonçalo Menezes has been surfing Ericeira for most of his life. He also shapes surfboards — his shop, Guzo Surfboards, is in the town. For years he felt the place lacked a hotel for the kind of traveller who surfs seriously and also cares where they sleep. So he built one — set into a green valley on the northern edge of the World Surfing Reserve, designed by a team that included Alexandra Almeida d'Eça, one of the co-founders, who described it as "an extension of my beach house." She assembled the collection of Portuguese art the way you'd curate a home — piece by piece, each one chosen before the walls were built. In Ericeira, where hotels have arrived quickly since the WSR designation, Immerso is still the one that looks like it came from conviction rather than opportunity.

Pine wood, concrete, curved ceilings that reference the ocean without representing it. The art was chosen before the walls were built.
Interior design by Tiago Silva Dias, Alexandra Almeida d'Eça, and Bárbara Neto — a consistent material language across all thirty-seven rooms: handmade rugs, bespoke furniture, surfaces that change colour with the light. The building sits into the hillside rather than on it. More than 100 pieces of Portuguese contemporary art installed throughout.
