The Surfrider

The Surfrider sits on the Pacific Coast Highway directly opposite First Point Malibu — the right-hander that named a culture. Twenty rooms, rebuilt from a 1950s motel by the people who own it, designed in-house without an interior decorator. Raw wood, natural stone, hand-painted ceramic tiles, reclaimed floors throughout. No televisions. The organic rooftop kitchen opens for breakfast at eight. Complimentary surfboards are available at the front. The walk to the water takes ninety seconds.
